Due to the extremely dry conditions statewide, the Office of State Fire Marshal Dan Wallis, along with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, have issued a statewide cease and desist order for all private burning, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1602. Private burning shall only be allowed by permission of the local fire department or local government.
This order shall not apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, or by those who conduct prescribed burning as a “generally accepted agriculture practice” as defined by the Louisiana Right to Farm Law.
This order is effective as of 5:00 PM, August 7, 2023, and shall remain in effect until rescinded.

Effective August 15, 2023, the City of Thibodaux will be accepting VISA, MasterCard, and Discover for in-person and online transactions. Due to the credit card merchant, there will be processing fees charged when using a debit and/or credit card whether you pay in person or online. The charges and how they will appear on your statement are as follows:
- Property Tax Payments (LA Thibodaux PropTax) – 3.5% or $2.50 minimum
- Miscellaneous Payments (LA Thibodaux MISC for inside and LA Thibodaux EP for online) – 3.75% or $2.50 minimum
- Utility Account Payments (LA Thibodaux Utility) – beginning in August a $1.00 Technology fee will be added to all utility bills
- $1.25 (TYL Thibodaux Fee) will be charged separately on all types of credit card payments
Keep an eye out on the City’s website because online payments for Property Tax will begin shortly thereafter.

The City Council of the City of Thibodaux, Parish of Lafourche, will conduct a public hearing at the regular meeting place, City Hall, 310 West 2nd St., Thibodaux, LA 70301, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. to consider levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval, or adopting the adjusted millage rate after reassessment and rolling forward to rates not to exceed the prior year’s maximum.
