The City of Thibodaux continues to be involved in the response to Hurricane Ida at the local, parish, state and federal levels. The City of Thibodaux will implement a curfew starting at 6:00 PM tonight until further notice. This storm is expected to be primarily a wind event with the worst of the winds coming between 5:00 PM-9:00 PMon Sunday. Residents are asked to stay off the roads during the curfew for the safety of everyone in the area. City of Thibodaux workers will continue to conduct storm tasks from now until tomorrow morning. They will shelter in place as storm winds exceed 30 mph. Mayor Eschete would like to remind those who plan to evacuate, do it now. Once the curfew is in effect, residents should shelter in place throughout the storm. Businesses are reminded to close during the curfew for the safety of their employees. First Responders will be sheltering in place as Hurricane Ida makes landfall. City of Thibodaux workers, Thibodaux Volunteer Fire Department Fire Fighters and Utility workers will begin clearing roads and restoring power once winds drop below 30 mph. This will not occur until Monday morning.

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Pelican Waste will NOT collect garbage or recycling in order for their workers to safely prepare for the upcoming storm. We apologize for the inconvenience and will notify in a separate press release when they will resume garbage and recycling pick-ups.

The City of Thibodaux continues to be involved in the local, parish, statewide and weather conference calls in reference to Tropical Storm Ida. In the past 24 hours the storm got stronger in mb/wind speed, larger in size, is moving faster & has more storm surge. In addition, all of the Bayou and River Parishes are in the direct path. Mayor Tommy Eschete would like to encourage residents to pay attention to parish evacuation orders in the next 48 hours. If you plan to evacuate, do it now.
