Based on Governor John Bel Edwards easing restrictions statewide and Lafourche Parish President Archie Chaisson lifting the mask mandate parish-wide, Mayor Tommy Eschete would like to announce the mandatory mask mandate is lifted for the City of Thibodaux.  No masks are required to enter and conduct day-to-day business at City of Thibodaux facilities.  The Harang Auditorium and Parks and Recreation facilities will follow the state guidelines depending on the type of event.  Here is a summary of the current restrictions mandated by the Governor:

  • Restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, beauty shops, salons, barbershops, shopping malls/centers, casinos, racetracks, video poker establishments, gyms, and fitness centers have no capacity restrictions, just socially distancing with lobbies now open.
  • Athletic events now have a capacity of 75% with no mask mandate but can go to 100% capacity if they implement a mask mandate for all patrons, alcohol sales are allowed with no congregating at counters.
  • Event centers and reception halls now have a capacity of 75%.
  • Bars continue to be able to serve inside with seated service only.  The Parishes control the times of alcohol distribution.
  •  Conventions and conferences now have a capacity of 75%.
  • Inside events now have a capacity of 75% with no mask mandate but can go to 100% capacity if they implement a mask mandate for all patrons.  Outside events have social distancing requirements only with no capacity limits and no mask requirement.  All fairs and festivals must submit a plan to the State Fire Marshal prior to holding the event.
  • Mask Mandate Information:

o   Mask mandate requires all passengers and operators of public conveyances to wear a mask, including on airplanes, ships, ferries, trains, taxis, rideshares, and in the corresponding transportation hubs.

o   All Offices of the State of Louisiana in the executive branch require a mask by employees and patrons.  The only agencies allowed to disregard the mask mandate are the Louisiana Legislative and Judicial Branches.  They must do so in a formal letter to the LDH Secretary.

o   All early childhood, elementary, secondary, and post-secondary educational institutions still require mask usage for students, employees, and visitors.

o   All local governing authorities and operators of private businesses have the authority to issue mask mandate measures.  By the intent of parishes through their declarations, the Parish Presidents are using La. Revised Code 29:727- Powers of a Parish President to take control of the mask mandate in their respective parishes.  The Mayor has the authority to lift the mask mandate based on La. Revised Statute 29:737 in following suit of Lafourche Parish President  Chaisson declaration to lift the mask mandate.
