Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program


The City of Thibodaux administers the HCV Program (formally referred to as Section 8). Rental assistance payments are made directly to the participating landlord. These payments are provided under a contract between the Public Housing Authority (City of Thibodaux) and landlord on behalf of an eligible participant. Applications to be placed on the waitlist are taken once a year. Please see the Applying for Section 8 section for more information.

We welcome Landlords to the City of Thibodaux to participate in the HCV program.

The housing choice voucher (HCV) program is the federal government's primary program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.  Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the HCV tenant, participants are able to find their own housing.  Housing choice vouchers are administered by our office and we receive federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer the HCV program.  This means that the tenant, landlord and our office all have obligations and responsibilities under the HCV program.

Tenants are given Section 8 vouchers by our office then go out to search for suitable housing.  To become a Section 8 landlord, click on the "Landlord Forms to Complete and Return" section.

Tenants with a voucher will also have a "Request for Tenancy Form".  Landlords complete these forms and the tenant returns it to our office for an inspection to be scheduled.
