On Tuesday, December 8,
2020, Mayor Tommy Eschete and staff members met with the five local Mardi Gras
Krewes to discuss the viability of parading in the City this upcoming Mardi
Gras season. After a thorough review and assessment of the potential impact that parades
during the current COVID-19 pandemic could have in our region, Mayor Eschete
has made the decision to prohibit all parades during the upcoming 2021 Mardi
Gras Season. Mayor Eschete stated that “He regrets to have to enact such
a directive, but the current COVID crisis leaves him no alternative. In
addition, he sincerely wants to thank all of the local krewe leadership for supporting
his decision which was ultimately based on the health and welfare of our
citizens and visitors."
