THIBODAUX POLICE DEPARTMENT

I

TREVERSE P. JOHNSON

February 18, 1977 – December 28, 2008

Thibodaux Police Detective Treverse Johnson died at approximately 9:00 a.m. on December 28, 2008.

Detective Johnson was a 9 year veteran of law enforcement.  He started his law enforcement career with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1999 and remained there until 2003.  In 2003 he joined the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he remained until November 2005 when he accepted a position with the Thibodaux Police Department. Detective Johnson was assigned to the Housing Authority Special Operations Unit as a Patrolman and also served as one of the department’s Hostage Negotiators.

In September of this year he was assigned as the department’s Public Information Officer and Internal Affairs Investigator.  Detective Johnson wore many hats in the police department, all of which he strived for the highest degree of excellence.  He recently received accolades for his role as a hostage negotiator when he helped end a standoff with an armed gunman.

Chief of Police, Craig Melancon, reflects, “Detective Johnson was a good man, a soft-hearted, kind person who was easy to talk to. He frequently expressed what an honor he felt it was to serve his community and was proud to be a detective with the Thibodaux Police Department. His family, friends and colleagues in the law enforcement community will miss him tremendously.”

Detective Johnson is survived by his wife of five months, Erica, as well as a large number of family, friends and fellow officers.

Detective Johnson was buried Saturday, January 3, 2009.
