Thibodaux Police Detective Treverse Johnson died at
approximately 9:00 a.m. on December 28, 2008.
Detective Johnson was a 9 year veteran of law
enforcement. He started his law enforcement career with
the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1999 and
remained there until 2003. In 2003 he joined the
Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he remained
until November 2005 when he accepted a position with the
Thibodaux Police Department. Detective Johnson was
assigned to the Housing Authority Special Operations
Unit as a Patrolman and also served as one of the
department’s Hostage Negotiators.
In
September of this year he was assigned as the
department’s Public Information Officer and Internal
Affairs Investigator. Detective Johnson wore many hats
in the police department, all of which he strived for
the highest degree of excellence. He recently received
accolades for his role as a hostage negotiator when he
helped end a standoff with an armed gunman.
Chief of
Police, Craig Melancon, reflects, “Detective Johnson was
a good man, a soft-hearted, kind person who was easy to
talk to. He frequently expressed what an honor he felt
it was to serve his community and was proud to be a
detective with the Thibodaux Police Department. His
family, friends and colleagues in the law enforcement
community will miss him tremendously.”
Detective Johnson is survived by his wife of five
months, Erica, as well as a large number of family,
friends and fellow officers.
Detective Johnson was buried Saturday, January 3, 2009. |
