Our January Senior Mayor for a Day is Mr. Leopold Perque; nominated by Thibodaux Healthcare Center: Accompanied by his son and daughter, Mr. Perque, 90 years young, was very honored and pleased that he had been nominated to be our Senior Mayor. Mr. Perque retired as a farmer and then worked at Nicholls State as a maintenance employee.
Mayor Caillouet and Mayor Perque finished the morning with a tour of the city and lunch at Politz Restaurant (courtesy of Politz).
Entrepreneurial Training Series to be Offered at Nicholls Beginning February 3 The spring session of a 10-Week Entrepreneurial Training Series is scheduled to begin Tuesday, February 3 and run until Tuesday, April 20, 2004. Included in the schedule is a one-week break for Mardi Gras.The series is designed to provide intensive training on the essential skills requiredto start and run a business.Topics covered include; Characteristics of Entrepreneurism, Business Structures and Risk, Business Automation, Accounting, Cash Flow, Financing, Marketing, Selling, Human Resources and Business Plan Development.The series culminates in the 10th session with a formal presentation of business plans followed by graduation. According to SLEC Executive Director, Vic Lafont,"This is program designed to support high growth and startup companies from Assumption, Lafourche, St. Mary and Terrebonne.Entrepreneurial activity is a sign of a healthy economy and we are pleased that nearly 30 companies have already completed this important training." The program is open to any business operating in or planning to open in the Bayou Region parishes of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Mary or Terrebonne.Participants may apply for admission to the series by contacting SLEC at 985-448-4485, or by submitting a request for information on the SLEC website at www.slec.org. A tuition fee of $80 per session applies and tuition assistance may be available to qualified companies through the Small and Emerging Business Development program or through the program's sponsors.For more information, contact Deanna Duet at 985-448-4485.
