A Word After Mardi Gras...  Mardi Gras day proved to be a good day for the City of Thibodaux and the end to a wonderful Mardi Gras Season.  Chief Howard Robertson stated, “My first Thibodaux Mardi Gras was a wonderful experience!  I met some wonderful families along the route; heard some great Cajun music from bands on Menard St. and Jackson St.; but the best part was all the wonderful food!”

Mayor Charles Caillouet and the Thibodaux Police Department participated in the 2003 Reading is Fundamental Community Reading Challenge at Thibodaux Elementary.  This event started February 14 and ended on February 27, 2003 with a different theme each day.

Last year, Thibodaux Elementary was named the large site winner for the State of Louisiana.  Their ultimate goal for this year is to be named National Large Site Winner.

Thibodaux Police Chief, Howard Robertson, a former teacher, strongly supports the Reading is Fundamental Program.  Robertson believes that education is a major factor in the reduction of crime.  Chief Robertson stated, “ RIF is a wonderful program allowing students and community leaders the opportunity to share the joy of reading.”

Mayor Caillouet would like to thank Ms. Melanie Thibodeaux and her 1st grade class for allowing him to read and visit with wonderful visit

Dear Mayor Caillouet,

Thank you for taking the time to visit with and read to my students.  It truly was a treat.  They are still so excited.  It is wonderful that you are always so visible in the schools.  You are a wonderful mayor.

Thank you again and sincerely.
