ASI Federal Credit Union Donates $1000.00 to Thibodaux Police Department:
On February 6, 2003 the ASI Federal Credit Union donated $1000.00 to the Thibodaux Police Department to be used towards the purchase of new bicycles for the Bicycle Patrol Division.  The City of Thibodaux matches the donation by equipping the bicycles with the proper lighting system, weatherproof bags, and various other law enforcement items commonly used on these bicycles.

This donation comes at a critical time for the Thibodaux Police Departmentís Bicycle Patrol Division because of the upcoming summer months that they are very busy.

The bicycle division is a critical asset to the police department because of the versatility of the bikes.  The bicycles are more agile and able to get to locations quickly sometimes arriving before patrol officers.

The Bicycle Division is currently used in all Mardi Gras parades to lead the parades, but are usually the first responders to any complaints along the parade route.  The bicycle division is also used at the Thibodaux Firemanís Fair to patrol the fairgrounds including the parking lots where fairgoers park their vehicles and the surrounding area streets.  Another component of the bicycle division is extra patrols in the Thibodaux area shopping centers to help in deterring crimes by providing high visibility.  The bicycle division has also helped the Thibodaux Police Departmentís Bureau of Narcotics on numerous occasions by providing support on undercover operations.

Most importantly, the Thibodaux Police Departments Bicycle Division helps in teaching young riders bike safety.  Most recently, the bicycle division in conjunction with the LA Trial Lawyers Association, the sponsor of a bicycle helmet give away, assisted by setting up a mock roadway and teaching young children understand the rules of the road including the use of hand signals.

President and CEO of ASI Federal Credit Union, Audrey Cerise, stated that they were approached about the donation.  The Board of Directors for ASI was then told and quickly approved the donation.  Ms. Cerise went on to say, ďASI Federal Credit Union is very interested in insuring the commitment and relationship with the Thibodaux Police Department and glad to help get the equipment needed.

Howard Robertson, Thibodaux Police Departmentís Chief of Police, Stated, ďThibodaux Police Department is grateful for this generous present by ASI Federal Credit Union and the donation will be used to purchase this much needed equipment.Ē
