Thibodaux Police Department
enforces nuisance law

The Thibodaux Police Department went on a two hour“crack-down” of violators of the City’s nuisance law, loud music fromvehicles, on the night of April 15, 2004.  From2142 hours, or 9:42 P.M. until 2357 hours or 11:57 P.M. officers Ruben Brown,Josh Falcon, Jamie Himel along with Lt. Kyle Cressionne and Det. JeffChamberlain, issued twelve misdemeanor summonses for loud music in this two-hourperiod.

The nuisance ordinance, Section 13, paragraph 1,for the City of Thibodaux states the following:

Prohibition against excessive noise and timelimitations on certain noise producing activities:

   (3) a.Motor vehicle sound level prohibitions:

Radio, television, loudspeaker andmusical equipment.  It shall beunlawful for any person to operate or possess a motor vehicle that is producingany sound by radio, television, loud speakers, musical equipment or similardevices within the interior or on the exterior of the motor vehicle that, at anytime, is audible at a distance of one hundred, (100) feet.

The total fine with court costsfor the first offense of loud music is one hundred, seven dollars and fiftycents, ($107.50).  The secondoffense, the violator must appear in City Court.
