TEENS ARRESTED INCONNECTION WITH RASH OF CAR BURGLARIES
On Tuesday, March 12, 2002, TPD Detectives arrested three Thibodaux areateenagers in connection with an investigation into a rash of vehicle burglaries,which occurred last weekend. The burglaries were spread throughout residential neighborhoods withinthe city limits including Rienzi Drive, Tetreau Street, Bayou Lane and St. MaryStreet. Thesuspects were 13, 14, and 16 years of age. Investigation revealed that the suspects were traveling around onbicycles and would periodically check car doors. If they discovered a car that was unlocked they would enter and removeitems such as money, cellular telephones, purses, and compact discs.
On one occasion they entered a female victimís car and removed herluggage, which she had packed to be ready for a trip to the hospital to deliverher baby. Mostof these items were later recovered abandoned in a drainage ditch. Throughinvestigative measures, the suspects were later linked to at least fiveburglaries. The three suspects were arrested and charged with one count each ofburglary and were release to the custody of their parents. Investigators are still attempting to locate the owners of items thatwere taken in unreported crimes. Anyone with information is asked contact theThibodaux Police Department at (985) 446-5021.
On Tuesday morning (March 12, 2002), Officers were called back to one ofthe burglary victims residence regarding a second incident, where this time anadult suspect attempted to take a barbecue pit from the rear of the residence.The victims who live in the 100 block of Rosedown Dr., reportedly told officersthat they confronted a man as he allegedly came from the rear of the residencewith their barbecue pit. At that time, the suspect, who was later identified as Nathaniel Mack,42, of 1125 Bourbon St., told the victims that he was about to knock on the doorto inquire about firewood that he thought was for sale. The victims gaveofficers a detailed description of Mack. Officers later located Mack and chargedhim with one count of attempted theft. Mack was transported to the LafourcheParish Detention Center where he awaits bond.
