GO-CART THIEVES NABBED
Astwo Thibodaux Police Officers patrolled residential neighborhoods shortly aftermidnight, they observed two young males pushing a go-cart in the 500 block ofLocust St. As officers attempted to make contact with the two men, both men ranaway from the officers in an attempt to flee the area. After a short foot pursuit, Officers apprehended Billy Fletcher,18 of 459Paula Dr. Thibodaux. While conducting a pat down on Fletcher, Officer discovered a master padlock in his pocket and observed that the top portion of the lock had been cut.Officers also recovered a bolt cutter, a gas can and an 8- foot security chainnear the go-cart.
Whilethe second suspect managed to get away at that time, Fletcher was brought in tothe Thibodaux Police Department for questioning. During questioning, Fletcheradmitted that he and Lynes Ward, 17 of 200 Plymoth St. Thibodaux, had juststolen the go-cart and the items found at the scene just before being caught bythe Officers. Fletcher then directed Officers to the 500 block of Cypress St.where he had admitted to taking the go-cart from the front lawn. In making contact with the owner of the go-cart, Officers learned thatall of the items found at the scene belonged to them as well.
Officerslater apprehended Ward on Olive St. During questioning, Ward admitted toassisting Fletcher in taking the items from the victimís front yard.
Wardand Fletcher were both charged with one count each of
Resistingan Officer, Theft over $500.00 and Criminal Trespass.
Bothmen where transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.
Inan separate incident that occurred over the Thanksgiving weekend,
ThibodauxPolice Officers investigating a bicycle theft, discovered a stolen go-cart atthe suspects residence in the 600 block of Pine St. Officers also located thebicycle and stolen tools. Two juveniles were arrested in connection with theweekends go-cart theft. The Thibodaux Police Departmentís Detective Divisionis currently investigating the theft to determine whether the two cases arerelated.
