Someweeks back, the National Football League contacted Mayor Charles Caillouet andannounced that the City of Thibodaux has been selected as 1 of 5 sites acrossthe state to participate in the National Football League's Super Bowl XXXVIYouth Mini Camp.
The Mini Camp, which will be held this Sunday, January 20, 2002, from1:30 pm until 4:10 pm, at the John F. Guidry Stadium on the campus of NichollsState University, is directed towards honoring the children of the City ofThibodaux's police and firefighters.
Alsoincluded in the activities will be sixth grade students from the City ofThibodaux's three elementary schools. Inall, 300 children between the ages of 10-15 will participate.
During the sessions scheduled for this weekend, the participants willsplit into small groups and rotate between stations managed by NFL superstarsfrom each team (except those participating in the NFC and AFC ChampionshipGames). The NFL players will teachthe fundamentals of their positions, demonstrate and direct non-contact footballdrills, deliver motivational speeches and sign autographs.
In a statement made by Mayor Charles Caillouet, " I invite everyoneto come out to view and enjoy the clinic at Nicholls State University. Although the NFL limited the number of children we were able to involve,I feel the afternoon will be a nice family affair for children to enjoy and forus to show our recognition and appreciation to our local heroes- the police andfirefighters who serve this community daily."
Admission is free to the public. Seatingfor members of the general public will be on the Audubon Street side of thestadium.
