Thibodaux Police Chief Howard Robertson reported that the Bicycle Rodeo, held May 31, 2003
at the police station, was a great success. Children and their parents received
instructions on “safe bicycle riding” with emphasis on the wearing of bicycle riding helmets.  Parents and children attending the rodeo viewed instructional videos and a power-point presentation.

The children received “hands on” instruction with Thibodaux Police Department Bicycle Patrol Division giving demonstrations of different riding courses that were set up in the Police Department parking lot.

Children attending were photographed with McGruff the Crime Dog and were also treated, along with their parents, to a tour of the Thibodaux Police Building and some of the various Thibodaux Police Department vehicles.

The department is going to make this Bicycle Rodeo an annual event and plans for next year’s rodeo have already begun.
