"You do not lead by hitting people over the head – that’s assault, not leadership."

Buckle Up:
No Excuses

In a letter sent to Mayor Charles Caillouet on June 27, 2002, James E. Champagne, Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections has announce that they are conducting a Seat Belt Awareness campaign in our region for the months of June, July, and August.

The campaign will be fair and not segment any part of the population. This campaign is a "zero tolerance" issue. Citations will be issued in residential neighborhoods, in cities and on highways for not wearing a seat belt.

Mayor Caillouet asks that we do our part and cooperate with the law regarding this manner.

The Southeast area of Louisiana is rated at 80% usage of seat belts. The current statewide rate is 68%. Their goal is to increase this number to 73% by the end of August.

For every one percent increase, 265 more lives will be saved, and it will prevent 4,600 moderate to critical injuries annually.

Champagne wrote, "Working together, we can reduce fatalities and critical injuries. Let’s make our state a safer place for all of Louisiana’s citizens."

All offices of the City of Thibodaux will be closed July 4 and July 5 in observance of Independence Day.
