KMART CLOSING DATE ANNOUNCED
Mayor Charles Caillouet and the City of Thibodaux have been officially notified by Kmart’s Vice President of Field Human Resources Shawn Hearn of the Thibodaux K-Mart closing date. Kmart store # 7910, 1657 Saint Mary Street, Thibodaux, Louisiana has been scheduled to permanently close on Tuesday, May 7, 2002. Kmart has contacted the state’s Dislocated Worker Rapid Response Unit to make sure that all of their associates’ transitions go with ease. “I am sad to hear that our community will be losing such a large company,” stated Mayor Caillouet. Terminations will commence on or about May 7, 2002.
“This measure of closing under-performing stores, although extremely painful and difficult, will help make Kmart stronger, more competitive and profitable,” said Kmart Chief Executive Officer Charles C. Ř In atemporary attempt to alleviate traffic congestion on Audubon Street at the Northand South Acadia intersection, the Thibodaux Police Department has scheduled atraffic guard to help avoid accidents and help traffic flow more fluently. The traffic guard will be at this location from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays with her schedule being adjusted tocoincide with high volume traffic times. MayorCharles Caillouet is currently working with the State and awaiting word for apermanent solution including traffic signalization to be put at theintersection. Ř The Thibodaux Police Department will beparticipating in the Relay for Life on Friday, April 5th at theNicholls State University Football Stadium from about 6:00 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. The Thibodaux P.D. will again have a team and a tent set up to representthe Thibodaux Police Department and our community in fighting cancer andpromoting cancer awareness. PoliceChief Craig Melancon stated, “This is simply an outstanding event that isabsolutely a great deal of fun and for such a worthy cause.”
