The Tiger Drive Bridge closed on September 3, 2013. A new, three lane bridge is being constructed which will better accommodate commuter needs. In addition to the bridge replacement, LA Hwy 1 and LA Hwy 308 will undergo signalization improvements. The bridge will remain closed for the construction period, expected to last eight to ten months. The replacement bridge and signalization improvements will cost $1,997,268 and are funded through the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD): Off-System Bridge Rehabilitation & Replacement Program, the State of Louisiana Capital Outlay Program, and the City of Thibodaux. LADOTD selected T. Baker Smith, LLC, Inc. as the professional design firm
on the project. Coastal Bridge Co., LLC was awarded the construction contract by LADOTD.
Mayor Tommy Eschete said, "The construction of the new bridge at Tiger Drive is a culmination of intense efforts from the City, State Representative Dee Richard and Senators Bret Allain and Norby Chabert. This project has been a long time coming and way overdue relative to traffic flow and safety. We have been anxiously awaiting the commencement of construction and request everyone’s cooperation and patience during the construction period. It will be well worth the wait!"
